As a response to the high vacancy rate, MMC Architects improved the shopping center’s overall retail environment and capitalized on the center’s full potential. Virtually everything was upgraded at Chinook Centre with a full exterior and interior renovation of the mall, redesigned parking decks and 25 acre site improvements.

Key features of the 1.2 million sq ft redevelopment also included the addition of a 2nd level retail mall and 900-seat food court. Located at the intersection of two existing concrete buildings, the Food Court and Centre Court was established as the focal point for the overall project by connecting the once fragmented buidlings. The glazed exterior façade looking into the food court from McLeod Trail reveals the barrel-vaulted steel roof structure spanning half the length of a football field. The exposed steel structure rises from the old concrete structures with prominence, celebrating the new energy of Chinook Centre.
